Our Activities

Children
Children
have been the prime focus of MARAGs interventions since
its inception. Initially enhancing the education level
among children was the objective; today promoting and
ensuring Child Rights in all the villages where MARAG
is working is the long-term goal. Two main interventions
that need special mention are Bal Panchayat and Activity
centers.

2.Livelihood

Livestock,
Land and Water has been the focus of our livelihood
related interventions. All the interventions are designed
in such a manner that they are integrated to the extent
possible; use locally available material; based on indigenous
knowledge and are community based.
Few interventions that have been undertaken to strengthen
the livelihood of the marginalized are-
1. Women Livelihood
Restoration Programme, Surendranagar
2. Community based Livelihood Program in Rapar, Kutch
3. Organic farming and Dairy promotion in Rapar, Kutch
4. Livestock led Livelihood Program in Patdi, Surendranagar
5. Community managed Water and Sanitation Program
3.Women
Empowerment
From
the very beginning, MARAG has been making efforts to
mobilize the Maldhari women with a view to empowering
them to play a decisive part in the development process.
Promoting and strengthening women groups has been the
strategy of MARAG since beginning and in turn we try
to implement and monitor various interventions of the
organization through these groups.

Emergency Response
In
past few years MARAG has been involved in providing
relief and rehabilitation support in disaster like situations.
MARAG partnered with other agencies to undertake community
based rehabilitation programs after the devastating
earthquake on January 26, 2001.
In 2002 when communal riots erupted in Gujarat, MARAG
was among the first few organization to respond. MARAG
worked with the riot affected children during March
– August 2002.
For past two years MARAG has been actively involved
in supporting relief efforts in flood affected areas
of Gujarat.
